The short version

  • Your collection lives on your device and syncs to your own iCloud, under your own Apple ID. We never see it.
  • The optional AI scan sends the photo (or text) you submit to our scan service, which passes it to OpenAI only to identify the item. We don't keep it.
  • Searches for covers and details go to well-known third-party catalogs (iTunes, Open Library, and others) so the app can show real artwork.
  • The AI scan also sends an anonymous device id (not linked to you), and Kept sends crash reports to Sentry so we can fix bugs.
  • No tracking, no ads, no analytics SDKs, no advertising identifier.
  • We do not sell your data. Ever.

Your collection and iCloud

Everything you add — titles, creators, categories, notes, your own photos — is stored on your device and, when you're signed in to iCloud, synced to your private iCloud database under your own Apple ID. We do not run our own server or database for your collection, and we cannot read it.

The AI scan — sends a photo

The optional "Identify with AI" scan (a Pro feature) sends the photo you capture to a scan service we operate, which forwards it to OpenAI to identify the item. The photo is sent only to identify what you photographed, is not stored after identification, and is not linked to you — there is no account. Each scan request carries a random anonymous device id, used only to apply usage limits. Barcode scanning, title search, and manual entry never send a photo.

AI suggestions — sends typed text

The optional "Suggest details with AI" feature sends the text you've typed for an item to the same scan service, which forwards it to OpenAI to suggest the remaining fields. That text is used only to produce the suggestion and is not stored or linked to any account.

Searches for covers and details

When you search by title or scan a barcode, Kept looks the item up in public catalogs — Apple's iTunes Store, MusicBrainz, Cover Art Archive, Open Library, Discogs, RAWG, TMDB, OMDb, UPCItemDB, and IGDB (through our scan service) — so it can show the real cover art. Only the search text or barcode is sent; we don't store your searches.

Crash reports

Kept sends crash reports to Sentry so we can find and fix bugs. A report contains technical details such as the app version, the device model and OS version, and the stack trace of the crash. It does not include your collection, photos or any account, because there is none.

Purchases

Kept Pro is an optional in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple via StoreKit. We never see your payment details — Apple tells the app only whether you're entitled to Pro.

What Kept does not do

  • No tracking across apps or websites.
  • No ads or ad networks.
  • No analytics SDKs that profile you.
  • No advertising identifier (IDFA).
  • No selling, renting, or trading your information.
  • No accounts or profiles on our servers.

How to delete your data

  • Delete everything in one tap: Profile → Settings → Delete all my data.
  • Delete items individually from their detail screen, or select and delete from the Library.
  • Delete the app to remove the collection stored on that device.
  • Manage or delete your iCloud copy in iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud.

Children

Kept is a general-audience app and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If we change how Kept handles information, we'll update this page and the date above.
